In December 2021, QI Tech announced the acquisition of Zaig, a startup specializing in digital onboarding, customer data verification, and fraud prevention.
The transaction was QI Tech’s first acquisition following its BRL 270 million Series A round, led by GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund. The agreement involved a combination of cash and shares, although the transaction value was not disclosed.
Fraud prevention at the beginning of the credit journey
Zaig’s technology operated at the initial stages of a financial transaction, verifying customer information and helping identify potential irregularities before credit was granted.
Its solutions included digital onboarding, data verification, and fraud prevention, essential capabilities for companies seeking to understand their customers, mitigate risk, and offer financial products more securely.
The acquisition complemented QI Tech’s existing credit infrastructure, which already supported stages such as origination, formalization, payments, transfers, and collections.
A more comprehensive infrastructure
By integrating the companies’ technologies, QI Tech expanded the infrastructure available to businesses seeking to launch credit products.
The objective was to connect customer verification and fraud prevention with the remaining stages of the credit operation, reducing the need to contract and integrate multiple providers.
“It is very important to include customer registration and fraud prevention capabilities in our portfolio. The acquisition of Zaig will make integration easier for QI Tech’s clients, as we can now provide a complete credit solution,” Pedro Mac Dowell, founder and CEO of QI Tech, said at the time.
Advancing the one-stop-shop strategy
The acquisition of Zaig represented an important step in QI Tech’s strategy to become a one-stop shop for financial infrastructure, bringing technology, regulatory capabilities, customer verification, and fraud prevention together on a single platform.
Zaig’s founders joined the operation and became QI Tech shareholders, contributing to the expansion of the company’s risk solutions offering.
